Any student aged 13-19 on the roll of a North Island secondary school can submit work. Each week 20 students will have their work selected for publication by The College Herald Editor.
The first deadline for entries to The College Herald is April 8, 2009. The first issue will be published on Tuesday, May 5. Complimentary newspapers will be sent to secondary schools throughout the North Island for the duration of the programme.
A full resource pack, including a resource book, posters for your school and flyers for your students will be sent to Heads of Department, Principals and Deputy Principals in secondary schools throughout the North Island. You can also download a copy of the Resource Book. Alternatively, you can view the list of Weekly Themes, or suggested General Themes and deadline dates.
Please note that you can start submitting work immediately on any subject about which you feel passionate.
Work can be submitted on-line or mailed to FREEPOST 209433, The College Herald - NSM Department, Response Bag 500015, Auckland Mail Centre, Auckland 1142. Alternatively you can fax written entries to (09) 373 6529. All work must be accompanied by an entry form.
Choose a general or weekly theme or submit work on any topic you like. Submission of all work is subject to The College Herald terms and conditions.
Just about anything. Written work can include articles, interviews, essays, reports, poetry, letters to the editor and investigative journalism. Graphic work can include painting, digital imaging, photography, cartoons, collages and sketches.
The College Herald Editor selects 20 pieces of work each week. As with other newspapers, the decision to publish rests solely with the editor.
The four pages that make up The College Herald are printed as part of The New Zealand Herald, which is read by over half a million readers every Tuesday*.
Each week one piece will be chosen as Editor's Choice Award. The Editor’s Choice Award winner will receive a Canon IXUS 100IS Digital Camera plus $500 for their school. Prizes for the Editor’s Choice Award will be presented at a prize-giving at the end of the 2009 programme.
The remaining 19 students will each win a $100 JB HiFi voucher. Vouchers are mailed to students each week.
Every student who sends in work, regardless of whether they are published or not, will go in the weekly draw to win a Canon PowerShot A480 Digital Still Camera.
